Celebrating 60 Years of Marriage November 20, 2025

Our Story

More than 70 years ago, two little people were created, worlds apart. Helen Christine Wala was born in Germany, and George “Bill” Morris was born in North Carolina. In 1959, they found each other in Connecticut and became instant friends. Though often they were many miles apart, they never forgot each other. In 1964, they became sweethearts, and on July 23, 1965 they were engaged, and were united in Holy Matrimony on November 20, 1965.

The years have brought us many challenges and many miracles. Two of them were beautiful baby boys. The first was Peter George Morris and 15 months later came little Michael Anthony Morris. They have grown into handsome, responsible gentlemen. Peter married Robyn, and they gave us three precious grandsons, Peter II, Joshua, and Mitchel. Michael married Ruth, and they gave us two beautifull granddaughters, Heather and Michaela. We are now the proud great grandparents of nine great grandbabies; Olivia, Daisy, Pierce, Keleb, Boaz, Parker, Ryann, Robert and Novalee. God has been good to us. We are blessed on this 58th anniversary, and looking forward to many more together.

In 1990 we celebrated our 25th anniversary. Our two sons and their wives had a celebration for us with a lot of our friends at our church. I found a VHS and put together a clip of that celebration. Hope you enjoy. Click the link below to view the You Tube video.

While the Bible does not directly reference a 60th anniversary, the number 60 is biblically significant as a symbol of completeness or a lifetime’s measure. A 60th anniversary can be seen as celebrating a complete and long-standing covenant, echoing themes of God’s faithfulness and the abundance that comes from a enduring union.

Biblical significance of 60
  • Completeness and abundance: The number 60 often represents a significant, complete measure of time or quantity, such as the 60 rams sacrificed for the dedication of the altar or Solomon’s abundant daily provisions.
  • Human life and prime: In ancient Israel, 60 was the age a person entered a new phase of life, with a specific valuation placed on males between the ages of 20 and 60. It can be seen as a symbol of life’s full journey.
  • Endurance and covenant: The number 60 can be associated with the steadfastness and endurance of a long relationship, similar to the covenant of marriage which is intended to last.

Celebrating the 60th anniversary
  • A testament to God’s faithfulness: The 60 years of marriage serve as a powerful testimony to God’s faithfulness and His hand in the couple’s life, reflecting the psalmist’s words, “You have been my hope, O Lord God”.
  • A symbol of enduring love: The longevity of the marriage is a tangible representation of the love and commitment that has endured over a lifetime, mirroring the relationship between Christ and the church.
  • A time for reflection and hope: The 60th anniversary is a natural time to look back on the blessings of the past 60 years and to look forward to the future with hope, just as Jeremiah 29:11 promises God has thoughts of peace for us to give us a future and a hope.
